De Vossemeren

De Vossermeren is a charming park in Belgium but also very near the Dutch boarder. There is a large central lake with a sandy beach but unfortunately swimming is prohibited. It's unclear if you're allowed to launch your own water craft into the lake (nobody stopped us!) but there are pedalos etc for hire.

In the summer season there is also a ski line to practice water skiing or wakeboarding along with a giant water inflatable. The central lake is sectioned into the different areas. You'll also find on the lake a cool bar which is perfect for hot summer days.

Conveniently, the park is also very near De Kempervennen which although Center Parcs no longer allow complimentary access to other parks, it's still worth a visit to try their Aqua Mundo at least.

Like many parks, de Vossermerren also offers golf cart buggy hire. This is particularly helpful if you're less mobile; in some cottages you're certainly going to need transport if you want to get anywhere quick in the park as it's quite large and split by the lake. There is a bridge across the lake which allows for bicycles at a squash.  Honestly though, because of the size of the lake and being right in the middle of the park you’re going to find it a long walk if you’re accommodated on the far side. Unless you like walking I’d suggest choosing your accommodation wisely, hiring a bike or hiring a cart.

Another downside of the park I found was there didn’t seem to be much restriction on driving or parking throughout the park. Handy if you want to pop to the local supermarket rather than buying on site but it did make walking a little unsafe. Drivers didn’t give much consideration for driving slowly.

The experience at this park will always be tainted for me. During the stay with little warning they basically prepped it out for a DHL Coroporate Euro Cup event closing half the park. Large parts of the park closed early, lorry’s driving around and we were even told to leave early on the last day. Customer Service experience was terrible - they basically refused to accept the complaint and kept closing the case. My advice would be to pay on credit card so you at least have some control of recourse when customer service refuse to acknowledge you.

Signature Feature

Kids exploring discovery bay
Discovery Bay crocodile

It has to be Discovery Bay - an indoor themed play area with pools, sand and pirate ships to climb on. This is a significant investment with fantastic theming. Whilst this isn't for teenagers, your tweens and toddlers will love this area. Discovery Bay puts the park right up there along side Erperheid for younger ones. If I had to rank them,  I'd put Erperheid as number 1 for tots and de Vossermeren as number 1 for 4-9 years.

Aqua Mundo

de vossermeren Aqua Mundo is a decent sized pool complex with a nice flow between pools and slides.

The main pool has the standard wave pool with the obvious main attraction of the monkey slide. You climb a set of steps to the central top of pool dome where you enter a flume. As the flume passes over the pool it’s transparent so a fun view for both the rider and on lookers. After a few twists and turns the flume drops you into a bowl where you make any number of loops until it drops you into the modestly sized outside pool. It’s great to transition from one feature to the next, but the outside pool is very small and only suitable as a landing area. You can also enter the outside pool via a connecting waterway. Building on the transition theme, you can then enter straight into the rapids which eventually take you back indoor. Not the most intense of rapids, but it is a lovely way to seamlessly transition again into the inside pool.

This Aqua Mundo probably isn’t going to get on teenagers hit list, but they certainly won’t be disappointed and it’s fun and suitable for all the family too.
